Gregory Young
Gregory Young is a professor of clarinet and music composition at Montana State University where he was Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Montana State University for eight years, and founding director of the Undergraduate Scholars Program. With a doctorate in music from the University of Michigan, he has been principal clarinetist with the Intermountain Opera Bozeman and Montana Ballet orchestras since 1988. He is a clarinetist with the Bozeman Symphony, whose outreach program “Far Afield,” he co-founded. During summers he teaches at Flathead Lake Music Camp and is principal clarinetist with the Big Sky Classical Music Festival. He has performed with university music ensembles throughout Europe, Asia, and Brazil. His latest book, co-authored with Jenny Olin Shanahan entitled “Undergraduate Research in Music: A Guide for Students” will be available from Routledge Press in August, and he is currently working with Oxford University Press writing an online course. His new composition, Rocky Mountain Elk Suite for Wind Symphony, was performed at the Kennedy Center in 2017.
